I’ve been taking some time off to prepare for embracing mediocrity as I transition back into my day-to-day routine. During this downtime, I’ve been reflecting on all the things I can offload and delegate. My biggest challenge? My brain. It constantly sees the puzzle pieces, possibilities, and room for improvement. While this mindset is a gift, it often meets resistance in some of the workplaces I’ve been in.
I don’t wait for someone to tell me what to do—I seize opportunities as they arise and create my own magic. I absolutely LOVE making things better. But in my quest to give it my all, I’m also learning some hard but necessary lessons:
When to wait for an invitation to step in.
When to step back.
How to propose ideas without always taking on the responsibility to implement them.
How to discern what I actually have the power to change.
That last one made me think of the Serenity Prayer:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference."
Y’all see how my brain works? One thought leads to another, and suddenly I’m swimming in a sea of ideas and solutions! Welcome to my world, lol.
Anyway, back to the point—I’m stepping into my routine with a little more discipline and a lot more self-preservation in mind. Now, I want to hear from y’all: How are you preparing to embrace mediocrity in this new year? Let’s talk about it!
xoxo,
Goddess Thea
P.S. Mark your calendars! The first full-length episode of The Mediocre Black Woman podcast drops on Tuesday, January 14th. You don’t want to miss it—set your reminders now!
When I look at what’s currently on my plate and what’s ahead, it’s becoming clear to me that my actions and words aren’t aligning. I’m walking toward more action, more aspiring. I’m trying to check myself and make sure that the things I’m pursuing and actions I’m taking are borne from what I really want and not just what I feel like I should do next.
This bullet point “How to propose ideas without always taking on the responsibility to implement them” REALLY resonates with me. Especially within my current job. I’m going to be sitting with this for a while.
Excited for the first full length episode of the podcast! 💗
This post resonates with me. There are so many learnings that can come from waiting to take action. Thanks for posting!
